The rain pattered lightly against the window.
Keith took a look down at the plate that about five-teen minutes ago, contained
his brunch. Two sunny side eggs and medium rare steak, his favorite. He put his
hands together, placing them under his chin the way he usually does when he
thinks. He let his eyes wander around, analyzing the different faces in the
dinner .So many people, so many lives with different backgrounds. He then
thought about how fast everything is now days. How you never see people just
stop and marvel at the beauty life has given them. His pensive state was
interrupted by the ringing of his phone.
“Hello” he silently answered
“This Keith?” A deep, gruff voice responded.
“Yea, and with whom do i have the pleasure of
speaking with.”
“ My name don’t matter.Mr.Clemenza wants you to
head down the old warehouse.
“Alright...just give me five minutes.”
“Just hurry up.”
Keith sighed and put his phone inside his rain
coat. The waitress walked towards him, carrying a friendly smile.
“You need anything else sweetheart.” she asked
while chewing on her pink gum.
“No, just the check please.” He got his wallet
from his pocket and put it on the table.
Tina the waitress placed the check on the table
with a blue pen at its side. Keith placed 30 dollars on top.
“Keep the change.” He stood up and walked
outside, the rain pounding on the top of his hat.
The rain began to fall with even greater force
as he got inside his black 1996 cadillac seville, the drops heavily
bouncing off the lightly tinted glass. He drove down Milk St.
with his wipers whooshing from side to side, finding a suitable hiding
spot for his car. He parked it behind the old building right next to some scrap
metal that has been rusting since WWii. The heavy rain had turned into a light
spray as Keith got out of the car. As he stepped outside he was careful not to
slam the already decrepit door.
He walked in through the back door, the sound of
screaming greeting him as he entered.
“Damn it Terry, do you wanna give me tinnitus!”
Bill held on to both his ears, trying to make the ringing stop.
“Yous the one that told me to shoot
em Bill.” He turned to face his victim.
“Hey you. Shut the hell up or i’ll put another
hole in ya!”.
“I told you to shoot near him you idiot .”
“You fellas need some help?” Keith asked as if
they were merely moving a heavy couch.
“My man Keith, hows it going brother?” Terry
waved the gun around as he greeted him.
“Thats it, give me the gun before you kill one
of us.” Bill walked towards him and snatched the gun from his hand. He put the
safety on and slid it down his holster. The tied up man screamed and cursed in his language.
“Afternoon Mr.Torres, would you be kind enough
to gag the Russian please?”
He looked at
keith with weary eyes. He could tell that Bill had not gotten any sleep. his curly hair spun in different directions. His eyes seemed to droop lower than usual, and his head looked as if it could fall off his body at any giving time.Keith had known the two man for about five months now. They were practically co workers, having accomplished several jobs together. Aside from his smart remarks, he took each job seriously. He kept his personal life to himself, just as close as he kept his flask. Terry on the other hand was a sociopath. A coke addict with a small temper and large ego. Keith heard once that Terry killed one of his own men for wearing the same shoes as him.
“So, what did our friend get himself into?”
Keith grabbed a rag from the ground and walked up behind the Russian.
Bill sat down a small stool and stretched his
legs out.
“This is the guy thats been terrifying our
employes. we were able to get some information out him, but my Russian is not
the best. I called Markey over to translate, but now were going to need a
doctor as well...some idiot shot him in the leg.” He glared at Terry.
“Hey brother, we all make mistakes.” He gave out
a an unsettling laugh.
Out of the distance they heard the sound of
cars. then a loud bang. One moment he was placing a rag in the mans mouth, the
other he was on the ground with his head throbbing. Everything seemed to spin,
and all he could see was darkness.
